Cognitive Interview & Investigative Statement Analysis Training

This 3-Day training course on Cognitive Interviewing & Investigative Statement Analysis will enhance your ability to gather information from victims, witnesses, informants and suspects more effectively and it will also improve your ability to assess information for credibility by distinguishing between truthfulness and deception!

  • Course dates: October 27th - 29th, 2014
  • Cost: $249 per person (which includes all material, am/pm coffee and lunch each day)

Training in Cognitive Interviewing & Investigative Statement Analysis is important for police patrol officers because the interviews they conduct sets the foundation for the investigation that follows. If you improperly interview a victim or witness, you can distort the memory and information, making it less reliable and possibly misleading! It it is also a crucial skill for investigators and detectives since they often are tasked with conducting lengthy interviews and interrogations, taking statements, assessing the credibility of information, conducting cold cases, etc.

This training is being held at the Graylyn International Conference Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. which is an outstanding facility on beautiful grounds within the great state of North Carolina!

Where can I get training in Cognitive Interviewing?

Cognitive Interviewing is a very powerful investigative interviewing strategy that is based upon solid scientific research within cognitive science, memory, psychology and communication. I have used Cognitive Interviewing throughout my law enforcement career with the Connecticut State Police where I served the majority of my time within the Major Crime Squad. I teach Cognitive Interviewing throughout the United States and abroad through my company LIES, LLC Linguistic Interrogation Expert Services, and I recently started an online training course on Cognitive Interviewing, which will make it much easier to learn the techniques that can extract significantly more information from people with greater accuracy. Therefore, the simple answer to the question of where can you get training in Cognitive Interviewing is right on this post, online or in person!

Reciprocity and Influence

Reciprocity and Influence

Reciprocity is defined as a 'relationship involving mutual exchange'. Within the context of an interview or interrogation it is a powerful psychological trigger that can be used to extract information from people. Check out the link to details on how reciprocity can positively effect an interview or interrogation!

Cognitive Interviewing

How much information is lost, or at least not "accessed", when a victim or witness of a crime is interviewed by the police? My guess is LOTS! After over 22 years of law enforcement experience I have seen many instances where people are interviewed and only a minimal amount of information is obtained.

Sometimes it may be, dare I say...laziness, but frequently it may just that the investigators were asking the wrong questions, or the wrong TYPE of questions to actually stimulate the individual memory and help guide them to provide further, accurate detail.

That is what Cognitive Interviewing is all about; maximizing the amount of information obtained from the people we interview. For more information check out LIES Linguistic Interrogation Expert Services at http://www.truthsleuth.com

Take care and stay safe!
